Friends of ABATE
hold event to benefit two charities.
The Friends of ABATE of Ohio, Inc. - Region 1 a
motorcyclist rights organization serving Belmont, Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, Monroe and
Tuscarawas counties in Ohio recently held a fundraising event that benefited two worthy
causes, the fundraiser was a hair cut-a-thon held at the Smithfield Apple Festival. During
this event eight persons donated hair to Locks of Love and raised $1,500 for
the children of Jefferson County. Pictured above are Nick Balakos Director of Job &
Family Services, Ken Perkins, Deputy Director ABATE of Ohio, Inc., Amy Rusnak, Albert
Thompson and John Rooster Rusnak of ABATE of Ohio, Inc. - Region 1 presenting
a ceremonial check in the amount of $1,500.00 to Jefferson County Children Services.
John and Amy Rusnak each have used their heads to raise money for charities, in 2006 John
agreed to shave his head to raise money for the children of Belmont County and this year
his wife Amy agreed to cut more than eight inches of her hair and donate it to Locks of
Love as well as benefit Locks of Love. Mrs. Rusnak raised money from pledges to cut her
long hair and those funds were in turn donated to the Jefferson County Children Services
to purchase toys for local children. In honor of their dedication to the local area
children as well as their improving the image of all motorcyclists the Rusnaks were
named ABATE of Ohio, Inc. - Region 1 members of the year for 2007. They will receive an
award recognizing this at the State Motorcycle Rights Organization Legislative Seminar to
be held in Columbus, Ohio February 1 & 2, 2008.
